During my time in Sicily, I spent much time in a village community in the South West of the island. I can only describe Sicily as an island rich with influences both new and old. Mountainous villages hold family, village life and traditional food at the centre of their communities. Village squares holding a mixture of traditional shops, markets and small modern supermarkets. Old cars, and mopeds constantly running through the cobbled streets and old townhouses, with modern helmets worn by their riders. Heat in the summer months causes the small villages to become almost nocturnal, with ice-cream parlours and bars staying open until sunrise. Amongst other things, foreign clothing, technology, and art can be found throughout the island as modern influence begins to mix with the old. Vibrant colours, food, beaches and landscapes can be found throughout Sicily, with a sense of tradition and warmth which would be hard to find in any other modern European country.
